District Economic Conditions
District Economic Conditions aims to provide a useful new perspective on economic activity in the Ninth Federal Reserve District. Each quarter the publication will take a short look back and a bit longer look ahead at the economies of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. (Because of data limitations, the analysis will extend beyond the Ninth District's borders in Wisconsin; only the northwestern part of that state is in the district.) The publication's quarterly analysis will be based primarily on the predictions of statistical models of the district's nonfarm economies, models that were recently developed by researchers at the Minneapolis Fed. Unlike other economic models, these help readers interpret their predictions by actually estimating how uncertain they are.
