Monetary Policy Oversight : Senate Hearings

1978-2021

Since the passage of the Full Employment and Balanced Growth Act of 1978 (also known as Humphrey-Hawkins), federal law requires the Federal Reserve Board to submit written reports to Congress containing discussions of "the conduct of monetary policy and economic developments and prospects for the future." This report--called the Monetary Policy Report--is submitted semiannually to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and to the House Committee on Financial Services, along with testimony from the Federal Reserve Board Chair. This series compiles all Humphrey-Hawkins testimony to the Senate Banking Committee dating back to the first hearing in 1979. The monetary policy testimony to the House Financial Services Committee is compiled separately.
