American economist and former chair of the Board of Governors
Janet L. Yellen served as chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2014 to 2018. Prior to her appointment as chair, Yellen was a professor of economics and held a number of public service roles, including member of the Board of Governors from 1994 to 1997; chair of the Council of Economic Advisers from 1997 to 1999; president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco from 2004 to 2010; and vice chair of the Board of Governors from 2010 to 2014. In 2021, Yellen was sworn in Secretary of the Treasury, a role which she held until 2025. (Source: Federal Reserve History)
