Andrew Felton Brimmer was a noted United States economist, academic, and business leader who was the first African American to have served as a governor of the Federal Reserve System. Prior to his service on the Federal Reserve Board, Brimmer worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as an economist, established the central bank of the Sudan, and served as assistant secretary of economic affairs in the U.S. Department of Commerce.
