RJ,--:rr,QRTS Nati ona l def ense projects approve d by the Work Proj ects Ad.ministrat ion during t he current fiscal yea.r passed the $100 ,000 ,000 mark during t he s ecoI;.d week in November , Howard o. Hunter , Acting Commi ssioner of Work Proj ec t s , announced today. }tr . Hunter said t hat 63 new proj ects , wi t h an aggregate cost in WPA funds of $12 ,683 ,677, were given final a,ppr oval during the t wo-week period ending November 15. This brought to $107, 884 ,034 the grand total of W'PA na t ional defense projects approved since the beginning of t he fiscal year on July 1. rationa l defense project s , he said, now accounting for ap:proximat e ly t went y percent of t he entire W.PA pr ogrnm, tD.lrn pr ecedence over all other types of pr oj ects . Most are placed in operation within thirty days after t heir appr oval in Washington. Included in the latest group of approvals i s a s i ngle project sponsored by t he Nati onal Defense Commission totaling $5 , 820 , 000 . This is primarily for the employment of WPA white collar workers on a variety of clerical and statist ical undertakings essential to the defense program. It wi ll oper ate on a nati on- wide basis and furnish employment for an average of 5 , 563 persons over a period of twelve mont hs . It is one of t he lar ges t singl e projects approved by WPA under t he defense program, Mr. Hunter said.
