Creating and Employing a Skilled Work Force : Challenges and Opportunities, November 7, 2011
This conference brought together presenters to analyze whether high post-recession unemployment rates stemmed primarily from structural mismatches (where jobseekers lacked the precise skills employers demanded) or simply a general lack of aggregate labor demand. Conference proceedings indicated that while dynamic technological changes continuously shift required skill sets, structural mismatches were not drastically more severe than in historical recoveries, and the economy retained capacity to generate quality jobs across various skill tiers.
