In the fourth quarter of 1977, productivity increased 2.3 percent in this sector. In manufacturing, productivity declined 3.3 percent in the first quarter of 1978 and reflected a 0.1 percent drop in output and a 3.3 percent increase in hours (at seasonally-adjusted annual rates). fourth quarter of 1977.
