WPA PROJECT WORICERS SEND PRESIDENT NATIONAL DEFENSE CONTRIBUTION
Thirty W?A project workers in Greenville, South Carolina,
have sent President Roosevelt a money order for $113 to be used for
national defense, W?A officials were advised today.
The contributors to the fund were employed at WPA wages in
a WFA warehouse.

small way we can hel p, we contribute whole-heartedly for t hi s purpose .

developed in the minds of all when Russia invaded. Finland. a nd. Germany
conquered one defenseless country after another.

We realized that our

country would of necessity have to build a two-ocean navy and raise a
standing army properly equipped with modern impl ements of war if the
United States is to defend itself from powers bent on wo rld conq_u est. 11

every individual working for a salary would contribute one day ' s
salary, we would have a very small defense debt, if any . 11
