The majority of the pr0 jects ce 11 for th e construction or imp rovement of buildings , utility systems, roadvrays, rifle r a np-es end ai:rr-lane landing fields in line with th e rapid expans i on of training facilities for the nat io n's arm<2d fo r ces . Inc luded are 47 p rojects for the Army, located in 21 states a nd the Distri ct of Co lumbia, which call for exnenditures of $7,260 , 653 of WPA funds , and 23 pro.iects for the Navy, l ocated in 14 states, the District of Cohlmbia, Vir~in Islands and Puerto Ric-:,, with 11,<:::fT egate expe nditures of $10,000 , noo in WPA funds. Largest of the projects app roved for the Army is that at Fort Knox , Kentucky , costing $750 , 000 in WPA funds . This calls for the construction and improvement of nu.rnerous buildings , extensi on of utility sy stems and imp rovement s to roads and walks . Another important project is that at Lowry Field , near Denver , Colorado , for the Army Air Corps. This cell s for an expenditur e of $350 ,000 for construction and repair work on buildin6s a~d utility systems and upon the d r ai nage system of the airfield . Since 1937 more than $5 , 000 , 000 of wo rk r elief funds h ave been allocat ed for th e development of this key sit e in th e nation I s military air system .
