USE OF IDLE SHOPS TO TRAIN WAR PRODUCTION WORYERS AUTHORIZED BY WPA

A plan by which idle machine , welding and sheet metal shops
can be used . to train war production workers wa.s announced today by
Howard O. Hunter, Commission3r of ',fork Projects .
Under this procedure WFA State Administrators may cooperate
with local school authorities by leasing for them idl3 shops needed
for expansion of their defense traininc prog_rorr,s if school fnnds a!'e
not available for this :purpose .

the WPA Di vision of Traj ning and Reer.tployment in cooperat:i on with the
Un:ited States Office of Education and the War Froduction Boa!'d .

Employment Service rolls . Local school boards will furnish instr1J.ctors
and be res p onsj ble for 0peration of th~o courses un(far th2 vocatio'1al

officials but norm1.lly will not exc0ed 10 we::,ks of 40 hours instruction
per week .
