Hopkins Announces Change in Federal Arts Admi nistrn.t ion.

Harry L. Hop~,:ins, Works Progress Administr ato r, announcect today
that the Federal Arts Projects in New Yorl~ City will be administered, beginning
March 1st, directly fr om Washington.

sion of these projects will remain, as heretofore, in the h~nds of their
National Directors -- Ha llie Flauagan, Theatre; Hol ger Cahill, Art; Henry G.
Alsberg, Writers; Nikola i Sok oloff, Music; Luther H. Eva ns, Historical Records
Survey.
Hallie Flanagan, the National Director of the Federal Theatre Project, will a ssume pe rsonal charge of the wo r k of the Theat re Project in
New York City; William P. Farnsworth, Deputy Director, will take charge of the
administrative end; Philip W. Barber will rema in in cha,r ge of production.
This change wa s recommended by Colonel Br E'l1on B. Somervell,
New York City Works Progress Administra tor, and decided upon by Mr. Hopkins
after consultation with Colonel Somervell and Ellens. Woodward, Assistant
Administrato r, under whose ,jurisdiction thes e projects fall.
