More than half o·f Arkansas 1 W"PA project cost to be spent for construction and
repair of public buildings and roads.

Approximately 63 per cent of the money for WPA projects in Arkansas will
be spent for the construction and repair of highways, roads, bridges and public
buildings, both educational and federal government, according to an announcement
made today by Harry L. Hopkins, Works Progress Administrator •
.An additional 16.3 per cent will be spent on parks and pla.,vgrounds,

flood control and other conservation, water supply and sewer systems, electric
utilities and transportation.

The balance of the money will be spent to provide

work for women, white collar, and other profes sional and technical unemployed.
A listing by types and cost of p rojects shows that of the total of
$14,335,580 to be spent on projects, by the state WPA Administrator as of

December 31, 1935, each classification will receive the following:
Highways, farm-to-market roads, streets fmd bridges, $7,305,537; or
51 per cent; public buildings, $1,750,365 or 12.2 per cent; parks and playgrounds
$860,195, or 6 per cent; Flood control and other conservation, $1,002,972, or
7 per cent; water suppli e s n.nd se,.7 er systems, $401,350, or 2. 8 per cent; electric

utilities, $24,422 or 0.2 per cent, and transportation, 0.3 per cent.

In the

white collar and women 1 s projects a total of $2,945,400 or 20.5 per cent will
be spent.
