Over 85 per cent of iviichigan 1 s WPA relief cost to be spent for construction
and repair work.

Eighty-six and seven tenths of the money for Works Progress Administration projects in Michigan is to be spent for highways, roads and streets; public
buildings of all types; parks and playgrounds; flood control and other conservation; water supply and sewer systems, electric utilities ~md trAnsportation, it
was announced today by Harry L. Hopkins, Work Progress Administrator.
A listing of types and cost of projects shows that of a total of

$44,019,374 to be s:pent by WPA, as of December 31, 1935, the foliowing classes
of projects accounted for the bulk of the money:
Highways, farm-to-mnrket roads Rnd streets, $20,597,908, or 46.8 per
cent; public buildings, both governmental and educational, $3,923,101, or 8. 9 per
cent; parks and playgrounds, $1,699,188, or 3.9 per cent; flood control and other
conservation, $3,262,260,

or 7.4 per cent; electric utilities, $189,983, or 0.4

per cent; and transportation, $1,916,170, or 4.4 per cent.
The balo.nce of the money will be spent to provide work for women, white
collar, and other professional and technical workers.
