Lew met yesterday and today with European Commission Vice President for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis and European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation, and Customs Pierre Moscovici on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group. Secretary Lew began by offering his support for all efforts to prevent further hardship in the migrant crisis through a comprehensive European response. Secretary Lew highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and reforms to boost economic stability and growth in Greece and Ukraine. He stated that Treasury will continue to urge Europe to meet its commitment to provide meaningful debt relief to Greece. He further emphasized that the Greek authorities must continue to implement necessary reforms and that the IMF should remain engaged with all parties. Secretary Lew added that the United States supports Ukraine’s reform implementation and debt restructuring agreement.
