Readout from a Treasury Spokesperson of Secretary Lew’s Meeting with Brazilian
Finance Minister Joaquim Levy at the U.S.-Brazil Economic and Financial Dialogue

WASHINGTON – U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew today met with Brazilian Finance Minister Joaquim Levy as part of the U.S.-Brazil Economic and Financial Dialogue. U.S.
Federal Reserve Board Governor Jerome Powell, Central Bank of Brazil Deputy Governor Tony Volpon, and other senior officials also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, Secretary Lew discussed Brazil’s macroeconomic and structural reforms, including politically difficult but necessary measures to achieve strong, sustained, and
balanced growth. Secretary Lew and Finance Minister Levy also discussed efforts to facilitate greater investment in infrastructure and took stock of recent developments to enhance
trade between the United States and Brazil in order to support growth and job creation and provide greater opportunities for our firms and workers.
Secretary Lew emphasized the importance of the Economic and Financial Dialogue to deepen a mutual understanding across a range of international economic priorities. Secretary
Lew added the U.S. remains committed to work together with Brazil to help reach a globally fair and modern international tax system, and to fight illicit finance in all its forms.
