Glaser to Discuss Administration’s Strategy to Combat Transnational Organized Crime, Urge Vigilance Against Syria’s Attempts to Evade Sanctions
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced today that Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing Daniel L. Glaser will travel to Moscow, Russia; Beirut, Lebanon;
and Amman, Jordan November 7 – 14, 2011.
In Moscow, Assistant Secretary Glaser will meet with senior government officials to brief them on the Administration’s strategy to combat transnational organized crime and to build on
ongoing cooperation with Russia to protect the international financial system from the threat posed by transnational criminal organizations. He will also discuss global efforts to protect
the international financial system from a range of illicit financial activity.
While in Beirut, Assistant Secretary Glaser will meet with senior government officials, regulators and banking sector executives to underscore the importance of Lebanon’s continued
efforts to maintain a transparent, sound and well-regulated financial sector. He will also highlight the need for authorities to remain vigilant against attempts by the Syrian regime to
evade U.S. and EU sanctions through the Lebanese financial sector.
In Amman, the Assistant Secretary will brief officials on the effects of U.S. and EU sanctions against the Asad regime and urge vigilance against possible attempts by Syria to evade
U.S. and EU sanctions through the Jordanian financial sector.
