May 13,1985 Des Moines, Iowa Vol. 14 No. 4 Chicago Fed Hosts Conference V E R 300 economists, regula tors, and financial executives met to discuss c ritic a l issues facing the finan cial industry on M ay 2 and 3 at the Conference on Bank Struc ture and Compe tition sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of S. KEEHN Chicago. The 21st annual conference pro gram included sessions on safety and soundness regulations, causes o f bank and thrift failures, problems facing rural and agricultural banks, and the viability o f private insur ance as an alternative to federal de posit insurance. Huston, Iowa com missioner o f banking; and Joseph C. Scully, president and chief executive officer o f St. Paul Federal Bank for Savings.
