A L B IA : The FDIC began payout on
February 12 to depositors o f the
Peoples National Bank o f Albia,
which was declared insolvent by the
Comptroller o f the Currency recent­
ly. Since no bids were received to re­
open the bank with a new charter,
FDIC is liquidating the nearly $50
million institution by paying o ff the
$46 million in deposits. Approxi­
mately $450,000 was above the
$100,000 insured lim it per account
and those depositors have been told
by FDIC they will be paid their first
$100,000 plus 55% o f their overage.
More will be paid later if recovery
from remaining assets permits.

Nebraska News
The Nebraska legislature has ad­
vanced two bills o f banking interest
and killed six others in com m ittee on
February 11. LB 767, which would
authorize placement o f a branch of­
fice in a town where a financial in­
stitution failed and has not been re­
placed by another, went to the floor.
It was amended to allow banks in
the county or contiguous counties
first right o f refusal for such a
branch within 30 days after such
failure. A lso advanced to general file
was LB 1123, which authorizes a
bank to own shares o f another bank
up to 10% o f its capital and surplus
(known as Bankers’ Bank bill).

department; LB 1015, which would
have required written notice o f right

loans and other assets for $14 mil­
lion and FDIC is making a cash ad­
vance to State Bank o f $3.9 million.

ROCKFORD: The acquisition o f Ulinois National Bank & Trust Co. by
American National Bank and Trust

the former has been merged with the
latter. The resulting bank will be
known as AM CORE bank, N. A . The
bank’s assets total in excess o f $675
million, making it the eighth largest
bank in Illinois and the largest out­

SKOKIE: The board o f directors of
First National Bank o f Skokie
(FNBOS) has approved signing a let­
ter o f intent to merge with Citizens
Financial Corp. (CFC). CFC is a re­
cently-form ed multi-bank holding
company with a controlling interest
in six Chicago area banks. W ith the
addition of the $340 m illion FNBOS,
its assets will approxim ate $1.8 bil­
lion, making it the sixth largest
commercial banking organization in
Illinois. The merger is subject to the
signing o f a definitive agreement, as
well as approval by FNBOS stock­
holders and appropriate regulatory
agencies. The letter o f intent pro­
vides for a minimum purchase price
o f $25.2 million, or $42 per share of
FNBOS com m on stock.
