Assistant Secretary Carpenter, Assistant Secretary Clayton, Assistant to the Chairman The action stated with respect to each of the matters hereinafter referred to was taken by the Board: The minutes of the meeting of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System held on January 5, 1942, were approved unanimously. Letter to Mr. Mulroney, Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, reading as follows: "In accordance with the request contained in your letter of January 3, the Board approves the designation of Robert E. Sorg as a special assistant examiner." Approved unanimously. Letter to Mr. Alvin H. Hansen, Chairman of the American Committee of the Joint Economic Committees of Canada and the United States, reading as follows: "At the time of the discussion on December 10, 1941, between Mr. Adolph A. Berle, Jr., Assistant Secretary of State, and the Board of Governors regarding possible steps to maintain an adequate supply of dollar exchange in Canada, it was suggested that a memorandum be prepared by the 18 1/6/42 "Board's staff and furnished to you with regard to what might be done by the Federal Reserve System in this matter. "Accordingly, such a memorandum has been prepared and is enclosed herewith. We are also furnishing a copy to Mr. Berle for his information. "You will understand, of course, that this memorandum was prepared by the Board's staff in an endeavor to show what steps are possible under existing law and is not intended as an expression of any viewpoint on the part of the Board of Governors or of any Federal Reserve Bank as to what may be feasible or desirable in this connection." Approved unanimously, together with a similar letter to Mr. Adolph A. Berle, Jr., Assistant Secretary of State. Letter to the Comptroller of the Currency, reading as follows: "It is respectfully requested that you place an order with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, supplementing the order requested June 14, 1941, for the printing of Federal Reserve notes of the 1934 Series in the amounts and denominations stated for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas: DenomiNumber of nation sheets Amount $10 75,000 $9,000,000 $20 25,000 6,000,000" Approved unanimously.
