'"In using year ago comparisons for the week ending November 29, allowance should be
made for the fact that in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, store closings
occurred in the week ending November 2k, 1951 vhereas this year they occurred in
the week ending November 29.
1/The large increases shown for this week reflect in part the fact that this year
Christmas fell on Thursday and the week therefore included three days of heavy preChristmas shopping as compared with one day last year when Christmas fell on
Tuesday.
