H.8.b
WEEKLY DEPARTMENT STORE SALES - SELECTED CITIES AND AREAS
NOTICE OF REVISED FORMAT

Responsibility for preparation of national figures on
weekly department store sales has been transferred to the Bureau of
the Census and, beginning next week, that agency's Weekly Retail
Trade Report will include data for department stores as.a regular
feature. Those persons interested in this comprehensive report on
retail sales should write to the Publications Section, Bureau of the
Census, Washington, D.C. for further information.
Although the Board of Governors will discontinue publication
of national figures on weekly department store sales, it is planned to
continue for the time being that part of the H.8.b report devoted to
the individual city and metropolitan area sales data compiled by the
12 Federal Reserve Banks. Next week's report will be on this new
basis.
