The data, which a r e derived from the Federal R e s e r v e Board's flow of f u n d s a c c o u n t s , a r e b r e a k - a d j u s t e d (that is, discontinuities in t h e d a t a have b e e n s m o o t h e d into t h e series) and m o n t h - a v e r a g e d (that is, the d a t a have b e e n derived by averaging a d j a c e n t month-end levels).
