System September 5, W Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r t h e week ended August 30: An increase of $697,000,000 in demand deposits a d j u s t e d and a decrease of $683,000,000 in United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s . Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans declined $22,000,000. Loans to brokers and d e a l e r s f o r purchasing or c a r r y i n g United S t a t e s Government obligations increased $55,000,000 and other loans f o r the same purpose declined $5u,000,00Q, both l a r g e l y i n New York C i t y , Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined i n n e a r l y a l l d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l decreases being $121,000,000 in New York City and $51,000,000 in t h e Chicago Dist r i c t outside of the c i t y of Chicago; the t o t a l decrease a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks was $21*7,000,000. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $1*8,000,000. . Demand deposits a d j u s t e d increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l increases being $335,000,000 i n New York City and $ll*l*,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t ; the t o t a l increase a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks was $697,000,000. Time deposits i n creased in a l l d i s t r i c t s and t h e t o t a l increase was $32,000,000. United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s declined i n a l l d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l decreases being $293,000,000 in New York City, $101,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $1*9,000,000 in the Boston D i s t r i c t , and $1*6,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ; the t o t a l decrease a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks was $683,000,000. Deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks declined $22,000,000 in the Kansas City D i s t r i c t , $13,000,000 i n the Atlanta D i s t r i c t , $12,000,000 in the Chicago District,and $61,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
