R. 284 For immediate release Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System Sept* 4, I945 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended August 29j An increase or $553,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted and a decrease of $505,000,000 in United States Government deposits. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased $34,000,000. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government obligations increased $58,000,000; other loans for the same purpose declined $70,000,000 in New York City, $16,000,000 in the Chicago District, and $107,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $61,000,000 in New York City, $$0,000,000 Chisago District, and $1*3#000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and declined $42,000,000 in the San Francisco District and $21,000,000 in the Boston District. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness declined $68,000,000 in New York City and $81,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of United States Government bonds declined $54,000,000 in New York City and increased in most of the other districts; the net decrease at all reporting member banks was $15#000,000. Demand deposits adjusted increased in all districts, the principal increases being $222,000,000 in New York City, $107,000,000 in the Chicago District, and $63,000,000 in the San Francisco District. Time deposits increased $30,000,000, United States Government deposits declined in a l l districts* Deposits credited to domestic banks declined $77,000,000 in New York City, $39,000,000 in the Chicago District, $28,000,000 in the Kansas City District, and $217,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
