BAKES IN LEADING CITIES The Federal Reserve Board 1 s condition statement of 6-35 r e p o r t i n g member "banks i n leading c i t i e s as of August 29 shows i n c r e a s e s f or the week of $31,000,000 i n loans and discounts, of $45,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s , and $16,000,000 i n time d e p o s i t s , and decreases of $30,000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s , $3,000,000 in investments, and $23,000,000 i n borrowings from Federal reserve banks. Loans on stocks and bonds, including U. S. Government o b l i g a t i o n s , were $6,000,000 below the August 2$ t o t a l at a l l r e p o r t i n g banks, decreases of $14,000,000 i n the Hew York d i s t r i c t and $10,000,000 i n the Boston d i s t r i c t being p a r t l y o f f s e t by i n c r e a s e s of $13,000,000 i n the Cleveland d i s t r i c t and $7,000,000 i n the Kansas City d i s t r i c t . "All other" loans and discounts increased $36,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $38,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g banks. Holdings of U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s declined $1,000,000 and of other bonds, stocks, and s e c u r i t i e s $2,000,000. Set demand d e p o s i t s were $1+5,000,000 above the amount reported a -seek ago, the p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s by d i s t r i c t s being: New York $4l ,000,000, San Francisco $6,000,000, and St. Louis $5,000,000. Time deposits increased $10,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t , $5,000,000 i n the Now York d i s t r i c t , and $lb,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g banks. All d i s t r i c t s p a r t i c i p a t e d i n the reduction of $30,000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s . The p r i n c i p a l changes i n borrowings from the Federal reserve banks were decreases^ of $37,000,000 at r e p o r t i n g banks i n the Hew York d i s t r i c t and $11,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , and i n c r e a s e s of $12,000,000 i n the Cleveland d i s t r i c t and $5,000,000 each in the P h i l a d e l p h i a , Kansas City, and San Francisco d i s t r i c t s .
