STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS

Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n 101 Leading C i t i e s
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading
c i t i e s shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended September 251 Decreases of $54,000,000 i n holdings of United States Treasury b i l l s and $35,000,000
i n holdings of United S t a t e s Treasury notes, increases of $126,000,000 in reserve
balances with Federal Reserve Banks and $96,000,000 i n demand deposits-adjusted, anr
a decrease of $146,000,000 in deposits credited t o domestic banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased $8,000,000 in the
Chicago d i s t r i c t and $3,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Loans to brokers
and dealers i n s e c u r i t i e s increased $6,000,000 i n New York City and $11,000,000 at
a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Treasury b i l l s decreased $45,000,000 i n New York
City and $54,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $31,000,000 i n New York City and $35,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds decreased $9,000,000 i n New York City
and $13,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of obligations guaranteed
by the United S t a t e s Government decreased $18,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t and
$7,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of "Other s e c u r i t i e s " decreased
$6,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits^adjusted increased $39,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t ,
$30,000,000 i n New York City, $8,000,000 i n t h e S t . Louis d i s t r i c t , $7,000,000 i n
the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t , and $96,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Deposits credited to domestic banks decreased $71,000,000 i n New York City,
$18,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 in the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t ,
$12,000,000 i n t h e Kansas City d i s t r i c t , and $146,000,000 at a l l reporting member
banks. Deposits credited t o foreign banks increased $9,000,000 at a l l reporting
member banks.
