CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended August 2?i Increases of
$201,000,000 i n loans and $315,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted,

Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s # the principal increases being $58,000,000 i n New York City, $ lit, 000,000 in
the City of Chicago, and $12,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ; the increase at
a l l reporting member banks was $105,000,000. Loans t o brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government s e c u r i t i e s increased $130,000,000 in
New York City and $131,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased $109,000,000 i n
New York City, $19,000,000 i n the Boston D i s t r i c t , and $143,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $15,000,000* Holdings of
United States Government bonds increased $28,000,000*
Demand deposits adjusted increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal increases being $96,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t and $66,000,000 in New York City.
United States Government deposits increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s and $43,000,000 at a l l
reporting member banks. Demand deposits credited t o domestic banks decreased
$71,000,000 i n New York City, $23,000,OdO i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $138,000,000
at a l l reporting member banks*
Borrowings decreased $29,000,000 in New York City, $21,000,000 i n the Cleveland
D i s t r i c t , and $69,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks*
