BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) September 3, 1947 H.4.2 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes for the week ended August 2?i Increases of $201,000,000 i n loans and $315,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, \ Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s # the principal increases being $58,000,000 i n New York City, $ lit, 000,000 in the City of Chicago, and $12,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ; the increase at a l l reporting member banks was $105,000,000. Loans t o brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government s e c u r i t i e s increased $130,000,000 in New York City and $131,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased $109,000,000 i n New York City, $19,000,000 i n the Boston D i s t r i c t , and $143,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $15,000,000* Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $28,000,000* Demand deposits adjusted increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal increases being $96,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t and $66,000,000 in New York City. United States Government deposits increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s and $43,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
