BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM H«I*.2 (For Immediate Release) September 28, 19U9 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended September 21: An increase of $280,000,000 i n holdings of United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s , decreases of #69,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $!*9L,000,000 in demand deposits a d j u s t e d , and $1*06,000,000 in demand deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks, and an increase of $316,000,000 i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s . Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased in most of the d i s t r i c t s and a t o t a l of $118,000,000 a t a l l reporting fiember banks; the p r i n c i p a l increases were $69,000,000 in New York City, $13,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $11,000,000 in the Dallas D i s t r i c t . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , a t o t a l of $59!*,000,000 a t a l l reporting member b a n k s j and holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds decreased i n a l l d i s t r i c t s , a t o t a l of $1*79,000,000, p a r t i a l l y r e f l e c t i n g the exchange of bonds c a l l e d f o r redemption f o r a new c e r t i f i c a t e i s s u e . Louis D i s t r i c t , $1*1*,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $1*3,000,000 each i n the Richmond and Atlanta D i s t r i c t s .
