The Federal Reserve Bcard 1 s weekly statement of. c o n d i t i o n of 727 r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s as of September 16 shows i n c r e a s e s d u r i n g the week of

Remand d e p o s i t s , and $ 1 0 9 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n Government d e p o s i t s , t o g e t h e r w i t h a d e c r e a s e of
$ 1 3 9 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in borrowings from the Federal r e s e r v e banks. Member banks in New York
City reported an i n c r e a s e of $ 7 0 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , and. a d e c r e a s e of
$ 3 ^ , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n investments* These changes in l o a n s and investment# Were accompanied,
