H.l*.£ BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERV0 SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) September 22, 191*8 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES Thfe condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes for the week ended September 15t Increases of $252,000,000 i n commercial, industrial and agricultural loans, $509,000,000 i n reserves with Federal Reserve Banks, $331,000,000 i n balances with domestic banks, $511*,000,000 i n demand deposits adjusted, and $711,000,000 i n demand deposits credited t o domestic banks. Commercial, industrial,and agricultural loans increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal increases being $11*9,000,000 in New York City and $1*2,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t # Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $265,000,000 i n New York City, £>57*000,000 i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $1*01*,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes increased $62,000,000, P a r t i a l l y r e l f e c t i n g the redempt i o n of a maturing s e r i e s , holdings of United States Government bonds decreased i n a l l d i s t r i c t s ; the principal decreases were $167,000,000 i n New York City, $63,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $51,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t . Holdings of "other s e c u r i t i e s " increased $59*000,000, Demand deposits adjusted increased $256,000,000 i n New York City and $51,000,000 each i n the Kansas City and San Francisco d i s t r i c t s . Time deposits increased $33,000,000, caused by banks being absorbed i n t o the s e r i e s ; the e f f e c t of the adjustments on other items was r e l a t i v e l y minor. Demand deposits credited t o domestic banks increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s . Borrowings decreased $82,000,000 in New York City and $91,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
