CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows t h e folowing p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended September 12: Increases of
$857 m i l l i o n in demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d and $464 m i l l i o n i n demand deposits
c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks, and a decrease of $910 m i l l i o n i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s .
Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l loans increased $190 m i l l i o n a t a l l reporting member
banks; t h e p r i n c i p a l changes were i n c r e a s e s of $108 m i l l i o n i n New York City, $48
m i l l i o n i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $14 m i l l i o n i n Chicago, and $10 m i l l i o n in
the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and a decrease of $10 m i l l i o n i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t outs i d e of Chicago. Changes according t o industry appear in another p r e s s r e l e a s e .
Real e s t a t e loans increased $28 m i l l i o n .
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $112 m i l l i o n , of which $62 m i l l i o n was in
New York C i t y . Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $39 m i l l i o n i n the Cleveland
D i s t r i c t and a t o t a l of $79 m i l l i o n a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of
United S t a t e s Government bonds increased $14 m i l l i o n .
Demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d increased $383 m i l l i o n i n the New York D i s t r i c t , $146
m i l l i o n i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and by smaller amounts i n a l l but one of the
other d i s t r i c t s . Time d e p o s i t s increased $100 m i l l i o n , o f which $98 m i l l i o n was in
New York c i t y .
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $87 m i l l i o n and borrowings
from o t h e r s increased $86 m i l l i o n . Loans t o banks increased $143 m i l l i o n .
