CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BAMS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition, statement of weekly reporting member banks in 91 leading cities
on September 11, issued by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System,
shows increases for the week of $61,000,000 in loans and investments, $192,000,000
in net demand deposits,and $150,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve
banks .
Loans on securities to brokers and dealers in New York increased $57«000,000
at reporting member banks in the New York district, and $55*000,000 at all reporting
member banks. Loans to brokers and dealers outside New York decreased $6,000,000,
and loans 011 securities to others $16,000,000. Holdings of acceptances and commercial paper bought and of real estate loans increased $5»000,000 each. "Other loans"
increased $21,000,000 in the New York district, and $29,000,000 at all reporting
member banks.
Holdings of United States Government obligations declined $29,000,000 in the
St. Louis district, and increased $16,000,000 in the San Francisco district, and
$1%,000,000 an the New York district, and declined $2%,000,000 at all reporting
member banks. Holdings of obligations fully guaranteed by the United States Government increased $7,000,000 each in the Chicago and San Francisco districts, and
$16,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of other securities decreased
$12,000,000 in the New York district, increased $7,000,000 in the San Francisco district, and were unchanged for all reporting member banks,
Licensed member banks formerly included in the condition statement of member
banks in 101 leading cities, but not now included in the weekly statement had total
loans and investments of $1,263,000,000, and net demand and time deposits of
$1,39^,000,000 on September 11, compared with $1,258,000,000 and $1,291,000,000, respectively, on September 4.
A summary of the principal assets and liabilities of the reporting member
banks, in 91 leading cities, that are now included in the statement, together with
changes for the week and the year ended September 11, follows:
