CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended September 7: Decreases
of $590,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $31*3,000,000 in
demand deposits adjusted, $21*2,000,000 in United States Government deposits, and
$565,000,000 in borrowings, and an increase of $671,000,000 in demand deposits
credited to domestic banks.
Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased in most of the districts and a total of $1*2,000,000 at all reporting member banksj the principal
changes were an increase of $38,000,000 in New York City and a decrease of
#18,000,000 in the Kansas City District.
Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $92,000,000 in New York City and
$21,000,000 in the Cleveland District, and increased $25,000,000 in the Philadelphia
District and $23,000,000 in Chicago; the net decrease at all reporting member banks
was $1*3,000,000. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness increased

$81*, 000,000.

Demand deposits adjusted decreased $185,000,000 in New York City, $76,000,000
in the Chicago District, and $1*2,000,000 in the Kansas City District, and increased
$32,000,000 in the San Francisco District. United States Government deposits decreased $128,000,000 in New York City, $53,000,000 in the Chicago District, and by
smaller amounts in nearly all of the other districts. Demand deposits credited to
domestic banks increased in all districts.
Borrowings decreased $1*91,000,000 in New York City and $75,000,000 in the
Chicago District.
