Form FR-284 For immediate release STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System September 13, 1937 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading Cities The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended September 81 An inr* crease of $50,000,000 in commercial, industrial and agricultural loans and a decrease of #29,000,000 in loans to brokers and dealers in securities; a decrease of $113,000,000 in demand deposits-adjusted, and increases of $21,000,000 in time deposits, $17,000,000 in Government deposits and $33,000,000 in deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial and agricultural loans increased $3-4,000,000 in New York City and $50,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Loans to brokers and dealers declined $25,000,000 in Hew York City and #29,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Other loans for purchasing or carrying securities declined ^$16,000,000 in New York City and $9,000,000 at all reporting member banks, and increased $6,000,000 in the Chicago district. Holdings of United States Government direct obligations declined $3,000,000 and holdings of obligations fully guaranteed by the United States Government increased $2,000,000. Holdings of "Other securities" declined $7,000,000 in the Chicago district and $17,000,000 at all reporting member banks* Demand deposits-adjusted declined $61,000,000 in New York City, $33,000,000 in the Cleveland district, $21,000,000 in the Chicago district and $113,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Time deposits increased $16,000,000 in New York City, $5,000,000 in the Chicago district and $21,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Government deposits increased $12,000,000 in New York City and $17,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Deposits credited to domestic banks declined $36,000,000 in New York City and increased in the other districts, the principal increases being $15,000,000 in the Richmond district and $11,000,000 in the Dallas district, and all reporting member banks showing a net increase of $33,000,000. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks amounted to $23,000,000 on September 8, an increase of $12,000,000 in New York City being partly offset by reductions of $4,000,000 elsewhere.
