The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended August 25* An increase of
$1*67 m i l l i o n in demand deposits a d j u s t e d , and decreases of $194 m i l l i o n i n United^
S t a t e s Government deposits and $1*05 m i l l i o n i n demand deposits c r e d i t e d to domestic
banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $31 m i l l i o n in the
San Francisco D i s t r i c t and $20 m i l l i o n i n the Dallas D i s t r i c t , and they decreased
$16 m i l l i o n i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t ; the n e t i n c r e a s e a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks
was $14 m i l l i o n . Changes according to i n d u s t r y appear i n another p r e s s r e l e a s e .
Loans to banks increased $153 m i l l i o n .
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $103 m i l l i o n in New York C i t y but they
decreased in most of the other d i s t r i c t s ; t h e n e t i n c r e a s e a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member
banks was $9 m i l l i o n . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased
$10. m i l l i o n . Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $28 m i l l i o n in the San Francisco
D i s t r i c t and a t o t a l of $43 m i l l i o n a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of
"other s e c u r i t i e s 1 1 increased $27 m i l l i o n .

m i l l i o n i n New York C i t y , and $68 m i l l i o n i n t h e Cleveland D i s t r i c t . Time deposits
increased $1*3 m i l l i o n , l a r g e l y in New York City and i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t .
United S t a t e s Government deposits and demand deposits c r e d i t e d to domestic banks
both showed decreases i n a l l d i s t r i c t s .
Borrowings decreased $67 m i l l i o n in Chicago and increased $62 m i l l i o n in New
York C i t y ; t h e r e was a net decrease of $7 m i l l i o n a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
