Ri 28k For immediate release Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading Cities The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 25* An increase of $821^,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, and decreases of $626,000,000 in United States Government deposits and $287,000,000 in deposits credited to domestic banks* Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $k7,000,000. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying s e c u r i t i e s other than United States t Government obligations increased $53,000,000 in New York City, $30,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $121,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United States Government obligations declined $36,000,000 and other loans for the same purpose declined $2^,000,000. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $#,000,000 in New York City and increased $85,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t ; at a l l reporting member banks the decrease was $67,000,000. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness declined $3k, 000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t and $65,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes declined $38,000,000 and holdings of United States Government bonds increased $67,000,000. Demand deposits adjusted increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s and the t o t a l increase was $82^,000,000; the principal increases were $332,000,000 in New York City and $258,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , Time deposits increased $37,000,000. United States Government deposits declined in a l l d i s t r i c t s . Deposits credited t o domestic banks declined $119,000,000 in New York City aad $287,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks increased $93*000,000 during the week, and on October 25 amounted to $283,000,000.
