CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 22s Increases
of 5163,000,000 in commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans, $529,000,000
in holdings of United States Government obligations, and $5^0,000,000 in demand
deposits adjusted, and a decrease of $408,000,000 in demand deposits credited to
domestic banks*
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and agricultural loans increased $8),000,000 in New
York City and $28,000,000 in the St. Louis D i s t r i c t . Loans to brokers and dealers
for purchasing or carrying TJhited states Government securities decreased
$145,000,000 in New York City and % 15k,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying other securities decreased

$75,000,000.

Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $290,000,000 in New York City,
§57,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $309,000,000 a t a l l reporting member
banks, and decreased #28,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t . Holdings of
Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $82,000,000 in New York City and
$128,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes increased
$51,000,000. Holdings of TJhited States Government bonds increased $61,000,000.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $1*25,000,000 in New York City, $75*000,000
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $1*4,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t . Demand
deposits credited to domestic banks decreased in nearly a l l districts*
Borrowings decreased $158,000,000 in New York City, $26,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $118,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and increased
$27,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t .
