CONDITION OF 17EEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BAKKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 20* A decrease of
$175,000,000 in loans, increases of $559*000,000 in holdings of Treasury bills and
$1*05,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, and a decrease of $163,000,000 in
Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans decreased $78,000,000 in New
York City, $18,000,000 in Chicago, and $8^,000,000 at all reporting member b*nks,
and increased $H*, 000,000 in the St. Louis District. Loans to brokers and dealers
for purchasing or carrying United States Government and other securities decreased
$115,000,000 in New York City, $1*7,000,000 in Chicago, and $165,000,000 at all
reporting member banks. Loans to banks increased $53,000,000.
Holdings of Treasury bills increased 9359,000,000 in New York City,
$11*2,000,000 in Chicago and $30,000,000 each in the Kansas City and San Francisco
districts. Holdings of United States Government bonds decreased $75,000,000 in New
York City, $23,000,000 in the Cleveland District, and $119,000,000 at all reporting
member banks. Holdings of "other securities" decreased $37,000,000.
Demand deposits adjusted increased in six districts and decreasedin six districts; the principal changes were increases of $31*6,000,000 in New York City,
$77,000,000 in Chicago,,$35,000,000 in the Philadelphia District, and $31,000,000
in the Boston District. United States Government deposits decreased $81,000,000.
Borrowings decreased $78,000,000 in New York City, $61,000,000 in Chicago, and
$163,000,000 at all reporting member banks,
