Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s
The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended October 20t Increases of
$911,000,000 in holdings Of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness, $788,000,000 in
holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds, $624,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s adjusted, and $ 1 , 2 6 7 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $2^,000,000 in New
York City, $23,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $54,000,000 at a l l reporting
member banks. Loans t o brokers and dealers in s e c u r i t i e s declined $103,000,000
in New York C i t y , $23,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $156,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s ,
the p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s being $365,000,000 in New York C i t y , $96,000,000 i n the
San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $87,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $72,000,000 in
the Cleveland D i s t r i c t ; the t o t a l increase %t a l l reporting mamber banks.was
$911,000,000, Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds a l s o increased in a l l
d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s being $25^,000,000 i n New York C i t y ,
$121,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $90,000,000 i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ;
the t o t a l increase at a l l reporting member banks was $788,000,000, Holdings of
Treasury b i l l s increased $235,000,000 in New York C i t y , $52,000,000 in the Chicago
D i s t r i c t , and $295,000,000 a t a l l reporting moiaber banks.
Demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d increased $205,000,000 in New York C i t y , $106,000,000
i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t , $86,000,000 in tho Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $62^,000,000
at a l l reporting member banks. United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s increased i n a l l
d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s being $501,000,000 in Neijr York City, $192,000,000
in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $165,000,000 in t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t ; the t o t a l
increase at a l l reporting member banks was $1,267,000,000,
Deposits .credited t o domestic banks declined $27,000,000 in the Chicago D i s - .,
