Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n 101 Leading C i t i e s

The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended October 19: A decrease of
$26,000,000 i n commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans and i n c r e a s e s of
$12-,000,000 i n loans t o brokers and d e a l e r s i n s e c u r i t i e s , $21,000,000 i n holdings
of United S t a t e s Government d i r e c t o b l i g a t i o n s , $282,000,000 i n reserve balances
with Federal Reserve banks, $151,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d and
$202,000,000 i n d e p o s i t s credited to domestic banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans declined $9,000,000 i n New York
City and $16,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks, some d i s t r i c t s showing small
decreases and o t h e r s i n c r e a s e s i n such loans. Loans t o brokers and dealers i n secur i t i e s increased $19,000,000 i n New York City and $12,000,000 a t a l l reporting
member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government d i r e c t o b l i g a t i o n s i n c r e a s e d $13,000,000
i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 i n t h e Cleveland d i s t r i c t and $21,000,000 at a l l
reporting member banks. Holdings of o b l i g a t i o n s f u l l y guaranteed by the United
S t a t e s Government i n c r e a s e d $6,000,000. Holdings of "Other s e c u r i t i e s " decreased
$8,000,000 i n New York City and $6,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
Demand deposits—adjusted increased $60,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $20,000,000
i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t . $19,000,000 i n the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 i n the
Philadelphia d i s t r i c t , $13,000,000"in t h e Boston d i s t r i c t , and $151,000,000 at a l l
r e p o r t i n g member banks. Government deposits declined $12,000,000 i n New York City.
Deposits c r e d i t e d to domestic banks increased $135,000,000 i n New York City, .
$18,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t , $11,000,000 i n t h e Boston d i s t r i c t , $10,000,000
i n the Kansas City d i s t r i c t and $202,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Deposits
c r e d i t e d t o f o r e i g n banks increased $21,000,000 i n New York City.
Borrowings of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks amounted t o $3,000,000 on October
