STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Form FR—284 For immediate r e l e a s e Board of Governors o f the Federal Reserve System October 23, 1939 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n 101 Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended October 18; Inroreases of $18,000,000 i n loans t o brokers and dealers i n s e c u r i t i e s , $149,000,000 i n reserve balances with Federal Reserve banks, $72,000,000 i n d e p o s i t s credited t o domestic banks, and $116,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d . Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased $2,000,000. Loans t o brokers and dealers i n s e c u r i t i e s increased $19,000,000 i n New York City and $18,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $16,000,000 i n New York City and $18,000,000 at .ill reporting member banks. Holdings of o b l i g a t i o n s guaranteed by the United S t a t e s Government decreased $16,000,000.
