CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 15: Increases of
$367 million in loans adjusted, $287 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $329 million in balances with domestic banks, $543 million in demand
deposits adjusted, and $722 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks.
Commercial and industrial loans increased in all districts and a total of
$215 million at all reporting member banks; the principal increases were $34 million
in New York City, $25 million in the Dallas District, $24 million in the San Francisco District, $22 million in Chicago, $21 million in the Boston District, and $20
million in the St, Louis District, Changes according to industry appear in another
press release. Real estate loans increased $24 million in the San Francisco District
and a total of $75 million. "Other" loans increased $53 million.
Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $27 million. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness increased $21 million and holdings of Treasury notes increased $161 million.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $189 million in the San Francisco District,
$100 million in the Kansas City District, $58 million in the Cleveland District,
$57 million in the New York District outside of New York City, and $52 million in
the Richmond District, but they decreased $45 million in New York City,
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $159 million and borrowings
from others increased $218 million. Loans to banks increased $146 million,
