CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 81 Increases of
$81*,000,000 in commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and agricultural loans and $30t*»000,000 in
demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and a decrease of $312,000,000 in demand
deposits adjusted.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and agricultural loans increased $3l*,000,000 in New
York City and $13,000,000 in the Atlanta D i s t r i c t , and decreased $15,000,000 in
the Chicago D i s t r i c t , Loans t o brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying
United States Government s e c u r i t i e s decreased $98,000,000 in New York City and
and $113,000,000 at a l l reporting "member banks.
Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased $1+0,000,000 in the
Chicago D i s t r i c t and $32,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and increased
$18,000,000 in the Philadelphia D i s t r i c t . Holdings of Treasury notes decreased
$50,000,000 in New York City and $32,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and
increased $15,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t . Holdings of United Status
Government bonds increased $12,000,000. Holdings of "other s e c u r i t i e s " decreased
$78,000,000 in New York City and $62,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits adjusted decreased $239,000,000 in New York City and
$82,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and increased $1*7,000,000 in the Philadelphia
D i s t r i c t , United States Government deposits increased $93*000,000. Demand deposits
credited t o domestic banks increased i n a l l but two d i s t r i c t s .
