FEDERAL RESERVE statistical For Immediate release October 13, 1965 H.4.2 CCHDITIOM OF WEEKLY BEPCBT1MQ MEMBER BARKS IN LEADIHG CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks In leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 6: decreases of $84 million in loans adjusted, $253 million in holdings of U. 8. Government securities, $322 million in reserves with Federal Reserve Banks, $574 million in demand deposits adjusted, and $3,187 million in U. 8. Government demand deposits and an Increase of $1,287 million in demand deposits credited to domestic commercial "banks. Commercial and industrial loans increased a net of $53 million; during the comparable week a year ago these loans decreased $210 million. Loans to brokers end dealers for purchasing or carrying U. 8. Government securities decreased $76 million, and their loans for purchasing or carrying "other" securities increased $10 million. Loans to sales and personal financing Institutions decreased $121 million and loans to "other1' noribeuak financial Institutions Increased $66 million, as compared with a decrease of $312 million and an Increase of $22 million, respectively, during the similar week in 1964. Real estate loans increased $33 million. "Other" loans decreased $50 million. Holdings of Treasury bills by weekly reporting member banks decreased $51 million and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. 8. Government bonds decreased $202 million. "Other" securities decreased $30 million. Demand deposits adjusted decreased in eight districts including decreases of $535 million in New York City, $160 million in the Dallas District, $130 million in the Chicago District, and $101 ml 111 on in the Kansas City District, and an increase of $283 million in the San Francisco District. Savings deposits Increased $187 million and "other" time deposits of Individuals, partnerships, and corporations Increased $296 mill! on. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from. Federal Reserve Banks increased $382 million and borrowings from others increased $1,052 million* domestic commercial banks increased $357 million.
