THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) October 1, 191*7 H.4*2 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes for the week ended September 24: An increase of 0186,000,000 in loans, and decreases of $383*000,000 in holdings of Treasury b i l l s , $195,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, and $ 1 * 0 0 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased in nearly a l l dist r i c t s , the principal increase being $33#000,000 in New York City; the increase at a l l reporting member banks was $77,000,000. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying touted States Government securities increased $23,000,000. Loans to banks increased $75,000,000 in New York City, $13,000,000 in the Boston D i s t r i c t , and $81,000,000 at a l l reporting manber banks. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal decreases being $281,000,000 in New York City and $63,000,000 in the San Francisco District. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness increased $82,000,000 in New York City and $8,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and decreased $31,000,000 in the Chicago District. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $39*000,000. Demand deposits adjusted decreased *58*000,000 in the Chicago District and $54*000,000 in the San Francisco District, and increased $38,000,000 in New York City.
