CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING nTTTES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in
shows the following principal changes for the week ended October
of $217 million in commercial and industrial loans, $189 million
Government deposits and $158 million in demand deposits credited

to domestic banks.

Commercial and industrial loans increased $163 million in New York City, $21
million in Chicago, $19 million in the San Francisco District, $12 million in the
Cleveland District, and $11 million in the St. Louis District. Changes according
to industry appear in another press release. "Other" loans increased $21 million.
Holdings of Treasury bills and of Treasury certificates of indebtedness
decreased $91 million and $23 million, respectively. Holdings of United States
Government bonds increased $21 million. Holdings of "other" securities decreased
$73 million.
Demand deposits adjusted decreased $56 million in New York City and $55
million in the Philadelphia District, but they increased $75 million in the San
Francisco District and $45 million in the Chicago District; there was a net
decrease of $84 million at all reporting member banks. Time deposits increased
$31 million.
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $340 million and borrowings
from others increased $69 million. Loans to banks increased $196 million,
