CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The c o n d i t i o n s t a t e m e n t of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks. i n 101 l e a d i n g c i t i e s
shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r t h e week ended October 30s I n c r e a s e s of
$361,000,000 i n loans and $200,000,000 i n r e s e r v e b a l a n c e s w i t h F e d e r a l Reserve
Banks, and a d e c r e a s e of $573,000,000 i n h o l d i n g s of Treasury b i l l s .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans i n c r e a s e d i n a l l d i s t r i c t s , t h e
p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s b e i n g $1*5,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $21,000,000 i n t h e Chicago
D i s t r i c t , and $16,000,000 i n t h e San F r a n c i s c o D i s t r i c t ; t h e t o t a l i n c r e a s e a t a l l
r e p o r t i n g member banks was $137,000,000. Loans t o b r o k e r s and d e a l e r s f o r p u r c h a s i n g or c a r r y i n g United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s i n c r e a s e d $139,000,000 i n New
York C i t y and $11*2,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member b a n k s .
Holdings of T r e a s u r y b i l l s d e c l i n e d $51*5,000,000 i n New York C i t y and
$573,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of T r e a s u r y c e r t i f i c a t e s of
i n d e b t e d n e s s i n c r e a s e d $1*8,000,000 i n t h e Chicago D i s t r i c t and $37,000,000 i n New
York C i t y , and d e c l i n e d i n most of the o t h e r d i s t r i c t s ; t h e n e t i n c r e a s e was
$28,000,000. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds d e c l i n e d $21,000,000 each
i n New York C i t y and t h e Cleveland D i s t r i c t and $50,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member
banks.
Demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d d e c l i n e d $107,000,000 i n New York C i t y and
$37,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks, and i n c r e a s e d $1*8,000,000 i n . t h e Chicago
District.
