CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING- MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
release

The Federal Reserve Board's c o n dition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member
banks i n leading c i t i e s on October 30 shows i n c r e a s e s f o r the week of $1, 536,000,000
i n loans and investments, $1,796,000,000 i n n e t demand d e p o s i t s and $175,000^000* in
borrowings from F e d e r a l reserve banks, and decreases of $15,000,000 in time depos i t s and $4,000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s .
Loans on s e c u r i t i e s i n c r e a s e d $1,180,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t ,
$33,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $27,000,000 i n the Cleveland d i s t r i c t ,
$25,000,000 i n the P h i l a d e l p h i a d i s t r i c t and $1,259,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks.
All other" loans i n c r e a s e d $175,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks, $100,000,000 i n
the New York d i s t r i c t , $31,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $14,000,000 i n the
San Francisco d i s t r i c t .
Holdings of U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s increased $28,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
banks, an i n c r e a s e of $41,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t being p a r t l y o f f s e t by
decreases of $12,000,000 i n the San Fr'ancisco d i s t r i c t and $4,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t . Holdings of other s e c u r i t i e s increased $58,000,000 i n the New York
d i s t r i c t , $7,000,000 i n the Cleveland d i s t r i c t and $74,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
banks.
Eie p r i n c i p a l changes i n borrowings from Federal reserve banks f o r the week
comprise i n c r e a s e s of $131,000,000 a t the Federal Reserve Bank of New York
a t
Cleveland and $21,000,000 a t P h i l a d e l p h i a , and a decrease of
$11,000,000 a t San Francisco.
