CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES P a r t l y as a r e s u l t of the Government 1 s f i n a n c i a l o p e r a t i o n s as of November 15, the F e d e r a l Reserve B o a r d ' s c o n d i t i o n statement of 659 r e p o r t i n g member "banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s as of November l6 shows i n c r e a s e s f o r the week of $4%,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , $205,000,000 i n investments, $233,000,000 i n net demand dep o s i t s , $195»000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s and a r e d u c t i o n of $78,000,000 i n b o r rowings from t h e Federal r e s e r v e hanks. Losns on s t o c k s and bonds i n c l u d i n g U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s , were *105,000,000 above the November 9 t o t a l , the p r i n c i p a l changes i n c l u d i n g i n c r e a s e s of $88,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $17,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t and d e c l i n e s of $10,000,000 and $8,000,000 in the Boston and Cleveland d i s t r i c t s , r e s p e c t i v e l y . "All o t h e r " loans and d i s c o u n t s d e c l i n e d $59,000,000, of which $21,000,000 was i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $19,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t . Holdings of U. S. s e c u r i t i e s , due to the Government f i n a n c i n g on November 15 were $194,000,000 above the previous week's f i g u r e , most of the d i s t r i c t s showing s u b s t a n t i a l i n c r e a s e s . Holdings of other bonds, stocks and s e c u r i t i e s i n c r e a s e d $12,000,000 a t r e p o r t i n g banks in the New York d i s t r i c t and $11,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks. Net demand d e p o s i t s were $233,000,000 h i g h e r than on November 9, the p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s comprising $137,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t , $27,000,000^in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , and $11,000,000 each in the Boston and Chicago d i s t r i c t s . I n c r e a s e s of $21,000,000 i n time dep o s i t s in the P h i l a d e l p h i a d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and small i n c r e a s e s in other d i s t r i c t s were p a r t l y o f f s e t by a d e c l i n e of $22,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t .
