H.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) November 19, 1952 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows, the following principal changes for the week ended November 12: Increases million in loans and $139 million in balances with domestic banks; decreases of $277 million in holdings of:United States "Government securities and $129 million xn United States Government deposits; and increases of $272 million in demand deposits adjusted and $251 million*in demand deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial, and"agricultural loans increased in all districts and °e ^ , 3 million at all reporting member banks; the principal increases were 9^7 million in New York City, $$2 million in the San Francisco District, $22 million in tne Dallas District, and $l6 million in Chicago. Changes according to industry are available in another press release. Loans to brokers and dealers forpurchasing or carrying securities increased $52 million. Real estate loans increased $26 million. 0 a ,o Treasury bills decreased $130 million in the New York District and ^ C h i c a g o , and increased $24 million each in the Richmond and Atlanta districts; the net decrease at all reporting member banks was $199 million. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $77 million in New York City and a total of $85 million at all reporting member banks. Holdings of "other securities" decreased $04 million, decreases occurring in all but one district. Remand deposits adjusted increased $65 million iti the Chicago District, $56 million in New York City, $55 million in the Richmond District, and $46 million in the San Francisco District, and decreased $4l million in the Boston District. . Borrowings decreased $185 million in New York City and increased $142 million m the San Francisco District; the net decrease was $102 million.
